Waterford Writing Instrument Case History
Objective: A publishing company was looking for a unique way in which
to communicate the formality of an upcoming, private book
signing featuring one of their most well known mystery
writers who also happenes to be irish and female. The
publisher did not want to have the "black Tie"
text a bottom of the invitation because it seemed too
obvious, particularly for a mystery writer's book signing.
They also wanted to provide an upscale gift to commemorate
the event.
Strategy: Since the romance of Ireland is the inspiration behind the design
of each Waterford Writing Instrument, a distributor
presented the company with Waterfords Cavendish fountain pen
as a gift to be included with the event's invitation. In
addition to the pens overall formal look, the other reason
the distributor chose to present the cavendish is the
inspiration behind its design. It was named after Lady
Cavendish, one of the owners of Lismore Castle in ireland.
Results: The company loved the idea of including the Cavendish pen with
the invitation to the event. They felt the pen, with it's
palladium finish and hand-cut diamond Lismore pattern (one
of the most universally popular patterns of Waterford
Crystal), truly exemplified black-tie. In addition, they
felt the Waterford image and quality conveyed the overall
feeling of the private event they were trying to achieve.
They also felt it fit perfectly for the mystery writer given
the design inspiration behind it.
